CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Chambersburg’s boys and girls basketball teams scored lopsided season-opening victories over Greencastle-Antrim on Friday night in the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament inside the CASHS Fieldhouse.

The boys, behind 16 points from Kayone Teal, dispatched the Blue Devils 66-39. Brittney Hickey’s 22 points fueled the Trojans girls to a 58-32 win.

“It was good to just get out and play,” Chambersburg boys coach Shawn Shreffler said. “It was a good crowd tonight, and for some of these guys, it was the first time playing in front this many people and you could tell there were some jitters early on.”

Teal helped shake off the rust, hitting four 3-pointers and grabbing four rebounds for the Trojans. Mitch Stahl had 12 points and Skyler Roman added 10.

The Trojans used a 12-0 first-quarter run — fueled by seven consecutive points from the 6-foot-7 Stahl — to jump out to a 16-5 lead and never looked back.

Greencastle got 12 points from Denver Cordell in the loss.

In girls action, the Trojans held Greencastle without a field goal in the third quarter as they reeled off 14 unanswered points to take charge for their first win.

“One thing we pride ourselves on is defense. That’s something we’ve really been working hard to get better at,” Chambersburg girls coach Anthony Rose said. “This year with the speed and quickness that we have across the board on the team, we’re pretty good at coming out and pressuring people.”

Hickey made 8 of 18 shots and added eight boards for Chambersburg. Jade Flory added 10 points and four assists.

Jenna Crunkleton led all scorers for Greencastle with 11.

Both Chambersburg squads advanced to today’s championship games against James Buchanan, who scored wins in both its boys and girls games earlier in the night. The girls championship tips off at 7 p.m. with the boys to follow at 8:30 p.m.
