Mail Call - Dec. 7

December 10, 2010

"What is this City of Hagerstown listed in the newspaper, 2010 winter events, for information on winter events, please call? What a joke is that? It should be saying 2010 Christmas events. Are you scared of the one or two atheists in town, when there's much more Christians in town? So change it, 2010 Christmas events. It'll always be Christmas, if atheists like it or not."

— Hagerstown

"I'm calling about people watching you every step of the way that you go. You don't do anything, they're watching you, and they're going around asking people all about you, to see what's going on. I think that's taxpayers' money."

— Mount Lena

"I would like to say President Obama doesn't need to take people's money away from them. He needs to quit sending money overseas, when we borrow it from somebody else to send there. And it's time they cut the Senate's expenses account down, and Congress. I mean, let's look at it realistic."

"The cold weather is here. I painfully see this little dog living tied up outdoors. You can see this dog wants and needs attention, to be protected from the harsh elements. This pet is supposed to be treated like a family member. This is not a hunting dog. It is a house dog. People are the voice for animals. Help animals by calling the SPCA."

— Big Pool

"I'd like to praise our president for trying to put a freeze on federal employees' pay raises and cost of living. The federal employees are no better than American working people out there that don't have jobs. Why do they think they need pay raises and cost of living? The senior citizens that needs the cost of living's not going to get it, so why should the federal government give their employees a cost-of-living raise? It's time for the American people to speak out more on this situation because there's too many big business people and CEOs out here who think they need these cost-of-living raises and all these pay raises, and the poor working man doesn't have a job."

— Hagerstown

"I just wanted to let people know that this is trapping season. Please, please, please keep your indoor pets indoors. Cats will be trapped, and that is just not right. If they weren't out, they would not be in danger. Dogs are in danger of being entrapped, too, so people, please keep your animals near you at all times. It breaks my heart when my husband comes home and tells me that he caught a cat in the trap."

— Downsville

"I am eligible for federal extended unemployment benefits from my work in Pennsylvania. I live in Maryland. Since the State of Maryland has decided that the state unemployment rate is not high enough, I cannot access the money Pennsylvania is willing to pay me. Who in the state of Maryland decided the unemployment rate is OK?"

— Washington County

"Shepherdstown caller said explain to me why the Democrats call the Bush tax cuts are for the rich. I don't understand your statement they 'want it both ways.' That's a result of too much Limbaugh listening. So, the answer: The tax cuts are expressed in a percentage, not a flat rate or amount. If a couple making $50,000 a year and the Bush tax cut allows (an) additional 2 percent, that would be $1,000. If a couple would make $500,000 a year that 2 percent would be $100,000. My math tells me a bigger tax cut for the rich than for the average Joe out there. President Obama says 'no tax cuts for people over $250,000. Only for the average Joe.' The Republicans say for everybody. The $5,000 to whatever would be used to reduce the national debt. The Republicans want to reduce Social Security, Medicare, welfare and other costs to reduce the national debt. So now you pick your poison. Do you want the rich to have more money or do you want to take away from the elderly?"

— Waynesboro, Pa.

"I called in about the professional truck driver or lack of, and I see a response in the Mail Call today. I'm glad your sons are good truck drivers, and they probably are professional. My point is, most truck drivers now are not professional. Don't compare people in cars and stuff, because they're just as bad, I understand that, but they don't have a title called 'professional,' so they don't really even count in this conversation."

— Hagerstown

"The town of Smithsburg needs to get the red lights going by the schools because if my child was to walk to school, it takes them 16 minutes, but for me to actually drive her to school, it took me 24 minutes to drive my child to school. Therefore, I think the town of Smithsburg needs to really take a second look at this red light by the high school."

— Smithsburg

"I'm calling about this large dog that does his business right outside of my porch. I don't have a dog, and to make out, no dog comes around here and the people don't come around here. How did this dog do his business and I stepped in it?"
