Hancock Police Chief T.J. Buskirk is giving his officers more leeway these days to fight crime.
Buskirk told Hancock Mayor Daniel A. Murphy and Hancock Town Council members Wednesday night that the department has launched a new program to let officers tackle issues in town.
Every month, one of the department’s officers picks a special assignment he wants to carry out, including something a citizen told an officer, Buskirk said.
The officer then formulates a operational plan to address the issue and submits it, Buskirk said.
He said the effort kicked off last month when an officer concentrated on speeding in the east end of town.
