Boonsboro, Clear Spring coaches get first wins

BOYS BASKETBALL

BOONSBORO — The Boonsboro boys felt like they achieved the ultimate on Wednesday night, defeating Liberty 52-51, giving new coach Skip Chambers his first victory.

In a total rebuilding year, the Warriors (1-1) pulled away from a 19-19 halftime tie to take a 42-34 lead after three quarters, only to have Liberty surge back.

However, three free throws by Justin Lewis gave the Warriors a 52-50 lead with 16 seconds left to play. Liberty (0-1) had an opportunity to tie the game with 4.5 seconds left but made only one of two free throw shots.

Lewis hit 9 of 10 from the line and led Boonsboro with 16 points. Caleb Jardeleza added 11 points and Justin Jardeleza had 10 points. Kurtis Lowery led Boonsboro with eight rebounds.

“My chest back are going to be sore,” said Chambers, noting the postgame celebration.

Clear Spring 48, Manchester Valley 36

MANCHESTER, Md. — Nick Hill had 12 points and four assists to lead Clear Spring to a season opening win over Manchester Valley (1-1).

It marked a successful debut for head coach Ryan Grabill in his first-ever game as a head coach.

Sam Elwood had six points, eight rebounds and five assists and Donald Schilling had six points and six rebounds for the Blazers.

SAINT JAMES — Leonard Livingston posted a double double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Saint James past Pope John Paul the Great.

Livingston also had five blocks, Avery Wilmore had 16, nine rebounds, eight assists and seven steals, Emmett Orfan had 18 points, four assists and three steals and Alec Wheeler had 16 points, three assists and three steals for the Saints (3-0).
