Martinsburg PD to host Junior Police Academy

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Students between the ages of 9 and 14 are invited to participate in the Martinsburg Police Department's 19th Junior Police Academy, which be held from Oct. 12 through Dec. 14, Lt. G.F. Macher Jr. announced.

The nine-week program explores a wide range of police-related topics, including the day-to-day operation of the city's police department in a "very structured" environment, Macher said in a news release.

There is no fee to attend the academy.

Applications, which much be submitted to the police department by 5 p.m. on Oct. 8, are available from school guidance counselors at all public schools in Berkeley County. They are also available on the first floor of City Hall at 232 N. Queen St. at the police department's dispatch window, according to the news release.
