Self-defense seminar to be held Nov. 20

On Saturday, Nov. 20, NORMAL, at 625 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown, will offer a self- defense seminar titled "Fight Like A Girl" from 9 a.m. to noon.

It is a three-hour program led by a senior instructor Mark Grove. It is geared toward females 13 and older. The seminar costs $25 and is tax-deductible. NORMAL is a community center in the city's West End. NORMAL stands for National Organization for Registered Martial Arts League.

Hip Hop Dance Show at Potomac Center on Oct. 4

Dancin' Time Studio will present The Hip Hop Dance Show on Monday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Potomac Center gym at 1360 Marshall St. in Hagerstown.

There will be hip hop, tap and jazz dances presented by students of Dancin' Time.

The show is free. Donations will be accepted for the volunteer association at Potomac Center to benefit the individuals living at Potomac Center.


Women's Club News

o The Women's Club, at 31 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown, will hold its fall bargain sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gently used clothing, household merchandise, shoes, handbags and jewelry will be available.

o The club will hold a fall fest Saturday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a baked goods table, and many homemade crafts and Christmas gift ideas. Raffle tickets for a complete turkey dinner will also be available.

Orders for chicken corn, ham and bean, and vegetable beef soups, apple dumplings and country ham sandwiches can be made by calling the club at 301-739-0870 by Oct. 25. Quarts of soup cost $5, pints cost $2.50, apple dumplings cost $2.50 and country ham sandwiches cost $3.

Pickup day will be Friday, Oct. 29, after noon.

o The Women's Club will hold a card party and luncheon Tuesday, Nov. 2, at noon. Come just for lunch, or come for the afternoon and play cards or dominoes or any board game. The event costs $12, which includes lunch and door prizes. Reservations can be made by calling the club at 301-739-0870.

The South High Alumni Association will hold a community yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school.
