Mail Call

September 27, 2010

"Don't build the senior citizens (center) at the Hagerstown Community College. Most seniors won't use it. Take the grant money and put it toward upgrading the centers in all the communities, plus build a central cafeteria to supply hot meals to our seniors, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This is for the seniors."

- Downsville

"I'm calling in regards to the Washington County public school teachers being at an impasse. I think it's very sad that with the tough economy that everybody is in and suffering from. I have a friend that's a teacher in Frederick County, and they've not received raises in three years, and neither has any other county in the state of Maryland. I don't know why Washington County feels that they're any different or better. They normally compare themselves to Frederick if Frederick gets raises, and they always want more."

- Hagerstown

"This is just a safety tip. I believe the radio stations and the newspapers, with winter coming on, they need to remind drivers to put their headlights on when it's raining, or fog or whatever. It's a safety issue, people. Just because you can see doesn't mean they can see you."

"There's only one thing you really need to know about Obamacare. Pelosi, Reid and the rest of those characters voted exclusively to exclude themselves from the very same health care bill they shoved down our throats. Well, in a few weeks, we can do a little shoving of our own."

- Clear Spring

"Hi, Mail Callers. Someone please call in and let me know what the huge, no-name building is that they've built at the intersection of Downsville Pike and I believe it's Lappans Road. It's a huge, white building with wrought- iron fence the whole way around it. There's no name. It looks like some kind of - it's also right beside where the satellite towers are back in that field. I'm just curious just to see what it is and why it's such a secret."

- Boonsboro

"Why do these right-wing talk show hosts and all these people call Sarah Palin 'governor,' whenever she quit in half of her governorship? They should call her 'half governor.' She couldn't stand the heat so she got out, and of course, ... they're feeding her money, hand over hand for these silly speeches."

- Hagerstown

"I was calling to find out if someone in the newspaper industry, or someone, anyone, in the U.S. can tell me when a victim of a situation becomes the criminal. In the Gestapo state of Maryland, it seems to be anytime that they are called out for any emergency call, the individual who is the victim can become the criminal as soon as the police arrive on the scene."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"I'm sitting here reading 'Longtime senator concedes. Munson won't give support to Shank.' Don. ... you lost. ... The election's over. Be a man, support the Republican that won the election. It was time for a change."

- Hagerstown

"I hope that Don Munson runs for state senator again in four years. By that time, the people will have realized what a mistake they made this time and welcome him back with open arms."

- Hagerstown

"I was calling in response to the people wondering why the people on welfare have nice new cars and people who work don't. It's because their husband or spouse or boyfriend is drug dealing, and they don't have to turn in that income, and others do."

- Hagerstown

"I'm watching the news about the imports and the exports and how much it's costing, and again, I ask this question, which seems to be a question that you don't want to print. If it's so much cheaper to send everything overseas, show me where it's cheaper, because you have to export and import. You have to send it over and you have to bring it back, and you have to pay for it."

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"Don Munson certainly has an attitude problem. Not supporting the people's choice in the recent election, he has shown his true colors in his defeat. You would think that he would ... at least ... assist with the transition to whomever defeated him because we are all working for the good of Washington County."

- Hagerstown

'It must be election time again. Dems are in full retreat of their legislative 'accomplishments' over the last 18 months, and we are being warned that the mean old Republicans are going to take away our Social Security. Some, God forbid, are even talking of repeal of the wonderful health care bill. Some, believe it or not, are actually talking of extending the Bush-era tax cuts and even spending cuts."

- Chambersburg, Pa.

"Aw - the signs of fall, cool mornings, leaves falling, crickets chirping, donkeys braying 'Vote for me to save Social Security.' Aren't these the people who cut billions from Medicaid? Haven't they had control of Congress for four years? How many bills did they ram through to secure Social Security? How come they only mention it at election time?"

- Warfordsburg, Pa.
