Part of Salem Ave. to be closed for sewer work

September 27, 2010

Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting, work crews from the City of Hagerstown's Wastewater Division will be installing new sanitary sewer laterals in Salem Avenue between Winter Street and Mitchell Avenue, according to a city news release.

The work will involve trenching across the full width of Salem Avenue to install the new laterals. Traffic on McDowell Avenue will not be able to access Salem Avenue during work hours, and vehicles may not be able to access Mitchell Avenue from Salem Avenue while the work is being completed, the release said.

Traffic control signs will be posted to detour vehicles around the work area via other city streets.

Salem Avenue, and the access to these two side streets, will be reopened at the end of each work day, according to the release.

The work is scheduled to be completed by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, the release said.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through Salem Avenue between Winter Street and Mitchell Avenue during daytime work hours.
