WELSH RUN, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police have identified the man they say shot a woman Saturday night and then killed himself at a home in Montgomery Township.

Charles Eugene Hawbaker, 43, was identified as the man who shot the 42-year-old woman, whom police have not identified because she was a victim of domestic violence.

The shootings happened between 11 p.m. and midnight at 6820 Dumeny Road, which is listed as Hawbaker's address in the Franklin County Voter Registration Office.

The woman remained hospitalized today and is expected to recover, police said.

Police said they found a 43-year-old man dead at 6820 Dumeny Road between 11 p.m. and midnight Saturday. The man died of a gunshot wound, and an autopsy will not be performed, Trooper Aaron Martin said.

Martin said the man and woman knew each other, but he declined to identify them. Voter records also showed the Dumeny Road address to be the home of a 42-year-old woman.

The rifle used in the shooting was recovered by police, Martin said.

The home where the shootings occurred appears to be on a stone driveway not far from Welsh Run Road in Montgomery Township, Pa. The winding, rural road is dotted with single-family houses and farms.
