Frances Elizabeth Grimes, 82, of Hagerstown, Md., died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown.

Born July 13, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William Richard and Delsie Mae (Kirby) Nally. She was the wife of the late William Abner Grimes, who died Sept. 2, 1998.

Frances was a past employee of HR Mills, Grand Union Supermarket and the Town & Country Food Market, where she was the bookkeeper for many years. She was a local notary public for more than 50 years and belonged to several women's clubs. Frances was a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown.

Frances is survived by one son, Richard D. Vincent of Middleton, Idaho; three granddaughters, Tammy M. Campbell of Middleton, Angela M. Vincent of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Cheryl A. Phipps of Franklin, Wis.; one grandson, William C. Vincent of Fort Edward, N.Y.; five great-grandchildren, Fred Hofmeister Jr., Eric Phipps, Casey Phipps, Luke Campbell and Oleander Vincent; one sister, Delores Dodson of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Dunkle, Madeline Clark and Rose M. Jennings.

The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fr. J. Collin Poston will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, with the Christian wake service beginning at 7 p.m.
