Mail Call

September 26, 2010

"About the caller that said about spending $75 on dog food and didn't understand it, people have animals, and animals to some people are like their children. I have two cats and I love them dearly, and I care for them, I feed them, give them water, medical attention. I play with them, give them a safe home, keep them inside, and I love them dearly. I wouldn't have it any other way. ... FYI for you, animals are important to some people, and they are more there for you than most people are."

"I'd like to know why The Herald-Mail -- why neither The Herald-Mail nor does not include the results of the freshman and JV football teams, from any of the schools around here. Those kids play just as hard as these seniors out here, and I think they need to be recognized in the paper. ... There is never anything listed about the freshman or the JV football teams from any school, and that is not right."

"This call is for folks who believe in term limits. Don't you know power comes to those who serve the longest? Sen. Byrd is a good example. Do you think a sheriff who serves a long time has too much law experience, or has shot his gun too often? Wake up and smell the coffee."

-- Hagerstown

"I just want to say, about the caller who spoke that individuals irritated by nosy neighbors usually are doing something illegal and get caught doing it, I don't see where that's so necessarily true. Maybe a lot of them just enjoy their privacy. So to assume that people that are watched by nosy neighbors are doing something illegal is a seriously ignorant comment."

"All I can say is thank God for President Obama and the legislators who passed the health care bill. Now I don't have to worry about reaching the maximum lifetime cap, due to my husband's multiple sclerosis and my son's autism. We will now be able to stay with the same employer, and be able to have health care that we need. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

-- Washington County

"I see where our omnipotent President Obama has again made yet another appointment, Elizabeth Warren, to serve in a, (of) course, new consumer protection bureau position, a position in which is funded by the federal reserve. So I guess they're printing more paper."

-- Hagerstown

"Chris Shank won. Donald Munson is showing his true colors; a Democrat at heart. He's about as conservative as Obama and his administration. Get over it, Don Munson and Lewis Metzner. The people of Washington County have spoken."

-- Hagerstown

"It's nice to see defeated candidate Ted Brennan supporting Neil Parrott for the fall elections. Too bad that another defeated candidate has to be a spoilsport, and then his Democratic friends have to try to rescue him. If they had been smart and in tune with the times, they would have seen this coming. Tea Party or no Tea Party, it's time for the conservatives to make changes."

"I went to the Department of Motor Vehicles the other day and saw two men at the booth in front of the Department of Motor Vehicles, and they had signs, 'Impeach President Obama.' They even had a picture of him with a Hitler mustache on. I'm wondering how this can be done on state property, state-owned property. Seems un-American to me."

-- Conococheague

"I'd just like to say that when the new Meritus Medical Center is up and running, I want to wish everyone that operates that hospital, the new hospital, the best of luck, and that I pray that everything will go well for them."

-- Hagerstown

"I just want to complain that the state and the County Roads are not mowing the weeds. I understand the grass is not growing, but the weeds are growing. They're 3 feet high, and the deer running across the highway, you can't even see them until you're almost too late. I'm sure the state and the county can save some money for -- because all these insurance claims for people hitting deer."

-- Boonsboro

"Chris Shank won the election through dirty politics. He should be ashamed of himself. A former Marine, proud of it."

-- Boonsboro

"I'm calling for all these people that are complaining about people getting money from the government, like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid. We paid into that when we worked. And for anyone to make that kind of remark, had better go back and look things over. This thing is welfare, all the -- everything else, if you didn't work for it, then it's not yours. You're getting it for free, and I am sick and tired of it. I am 71 years old."

-- Hagerstown

"It's really sad how fast people forget that the Republicans are the people who put us in the mess. George Bush put us in Iraq, a war that we didn't need to fight, and the Democrats are doing all they can to dig us out of what Bush and his Republicans put us into. Don't lose focus, folks, and don't believe the lies that the Republicans are trying to tell you ... and to all the young kids that are old enough to vote, get out there and do so on election day."

-- Hagerstown

"This is about Lewis Metzner wanting to run against Shank in the general election. Lewis Metzner couldn't tie Shank's shoelaces, as far as I'm concerned."

-- Boonsboro

"Lew Metzner, if you want to run for senator, do it four years from now like you're supposed to. Don't try to wiggle your way in too late."

-- Hagerstown
