The Gossards

Charles and Martha Gossard of Hagerstown celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at South Mountain Inn with family and friends.

The event was hosted by their four children: Linda Rothenburg and husband, Dick; Mary Ann Gelwicks and husband, Bob; Robert and partner, Carl Ziebe; and Richard and wife, Sue.

The Gossards were married Sept. 1, 1940, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Roy Sloop.

Mrs. Gossard is the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie Adams. She retired from Western Maryland State Hospital.

Mr. Gossard is the son of the late Robert and Ethel Gossard. He retired from Fairchild.

They have four grandchildren, Ann Rothenburg, Richard Rothenburg and wife, Jamie; Angie Friend and husband, Joe; and Ricky Murray. They have three great-grandchildren, Elise and Ariel Rothenburg and Nathan Murray.

The Shaws

Ragan and Ecile Shaw of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with many family and friends Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at the Elks Lodge in Hagerstown. It was co-hosted by their children and their children's spouses. Family came from North Carolina and Virginia Beach. The Shaws were married July 13, 1960, in Washington, D.C.


Mr. Shaw graduated from Hagerstown High School, class of 1956, served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Shaw is the former Ecile Carbaugh. She graduated from North Hagerstown High School, class of 1957 and Washington County Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. She retired from Western Maryland Hospital Center.

They have three children:daughter, Kim Williams, and husband Tim of Hagerstown; son, Brian Shaw and wife Erica, of Hagerstown; and daughter, Angela Keiser and husband Andy of Westminster, Md. They also have three grandchildren: Austin Williams, Devin Williams and Ragan Shaw, all of Hagerstown.
