Etzel runs for 302 yards, 5 TDs in Clear Spring win

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va. -- Mike Etzel was at it again on Friday night.

This time, he and his teammates had more than three hours on a bus ride home to enjoy his 302-yard rushing performance and a 47-24 victory over Clay-Battelle on Friday night.

Etzel lugged the football 30 times and scored five times for the Blazers (2-2), who have now scored 99 points in their last two games.

In the same time frame, Etzel has rushed for 629 yards as he backed up a 327-yard effort last week against Hancock.


Stephen Smith opened a 21-point first quarter for Clear Spring with a 1-yard run and Etzel followed with a 13-yard run and a 10-yarder.

After Clay-Battelle closed the deficit to 21-18, Etzel made it 28-18 at the half on a 2-yard run.

He scored twice in the second half on runs of 22 and 15 yards and quarterback Adam Mellott also scored from the 1.

The Blazers ran for 347 yards as a team and Mellott was 5 of 12 passing for 131 yards.

Greencastle 55, West Perry 7

ELLIOTTSBURG, Pa. -- Undefeated Greencastle-Antrim scored 41 points in the second quarter and led 55-0 at halftime against winless West Perry (0-4).

The Blue Devils racked up 365 yards rushing. Tyler Szaflarski ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns, Denver Cordell ran for 110 yards and a pair of TDs and Aaron Bumbaugh also had a TD run for the Blue Devils (4-0).

Austin Scott caught a 20-yard TD pass from Devin Schaeffer, and Scott and Schaeffer also both returned interceptions for scores.

Northern 36, Waynesboro 0

DILLSBURG, Pa. -- Kevin Lytle returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown for Northern and it was all downhill from there for winless Waynesboro (0-4).

Alex Dale threw a pair of touchdown passes for the Polar Bears (2-2), who led 36-0 at halftime.

Gettysburg 43, James Buchanan 6

MERCERSBURG, Pa. -- D.J. Johnson ran for two touchdowns and Chase Whiteman passed for a pair of scores to lead Gettysburg (2-2), which led 36-6 at halftime.

Robert Lee scored the lone touchdown for James Buchanan (1-3) on a 90-yard interception return in the second quarter.

CD East 37, Chambersburg 21

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Bo Wilson had two touchdown runs in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to give Central Dauphin East a commanding 35-14 lead on its way to victory.

Aris Scott passed for a touchdown and ran for another one in the second quarter as the Panthers (2-2) went on top 20-0.

Chambersburg (1-3) got touchdown runs by Tyler Williams and Matt Harbaugh to cut the deficit to 20-14 at halftime.

Chambersburg's Colby Perry scored on a 16-yard pass from Connor McCoy with 6:11 left in the fourth quarter to make it a 35-21 game.

Alex Vocature had two goals to lead Faith Christian Academy past Heritage Academy.

Jeremiah Hoy and Matthew Butler each had a goal and Paul Hercules had six saves for the Falcons.

Chad Lowry scored on an assist by Tristan Prejean and Christian Strickler had five saves for the Eagles (5-3).


North 3, Clear Spring 1

Katelyn Goodnough, Corie Anderson and Lyndsey Knapp each had a goal for North Hagerstown in a win over Clear Spring.

Rivka Herrera had seven saves for the Hubs (2-4-1, 1-0).

Miranda Carney scored for the Blazers (4-3, 0-1).

Martinsburg 3, Hedgesville 1

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. -- Kendall Bush, Ali Miller and Maggie Nevin each scored a goal for Martinsburg in a win over Hedgesville.

Ashlin Nealey had five saves for the Bulldogs (6-4-1).

Katie Marchun scored a goal and Ashley Warfield had 11 saves for the Eagles (4-3-2).

Kara Stamper had 12 kills, 16 service points, five aces and three blocks for Heritage Academy in a 25-15, 25-15, 25-19 sweep of Faith Christian Academy.

Callie Butts had 20 assists, seven service points, three aces and two kills for the Eagles (8-0), while Rachel Clarke had four kills, four service points and two aces and Jessica Gaylor had six service points, three aces and two kills.
