About 1,500 Allegheny Power customers in Washington County lost their electricity for nearly 4 1/2 hours Thursday after a cross arm on a utility pole broke and disrupted the main line, an Allegheny Power spokesman said.
Mark Nitowski said the problem affected customers who live in and around Clear Spring, Hagerstown and Williamsport. The outage lasted from about 9:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Nitowski said inclement weather or wear and tear could have caused the cross arm to break, but officials weren't sure Thursday afternoon.
Washington County Public Schools were not affected by the outage, schools spokesman Richard Wright said.
