Christmas bazaar

Washington Square United Methodist Church, at 538 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown, will hold a Christmas bazaar, flea market and food event Saturday, Oct. 23, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Parking will be at the rear of the church.

Attendees are encouraged to stay for breakfast and lunch. The menu includes coffee, doughnuts, sandwiches, soup, cake, cookies, candy, apple dumplings and other items.

Merchandise will be for sale to get a head start on Christmas shopping.

Zumba classes

St. Mark's at 18313 Lappans Road in Boonsboro and Christ's Reformed Church at 130 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown will offer a free introduction to Zumba exercise.

Zumba is exercise to Latin music.

Instructor Anita Binder is offering new participants a chance to try a Zumba class at no charge.

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at St. Mark's. Separate sessions are held at 5:30 or 6:45 p.m.

Classes at Christ's Reformed Church meet Mondays from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.


Binder has partnered with a local college student who will babysit children for $3 an hour. For baby-sitting, contact Allison at"> before the class.

SHHS class of 1961

The South Hagerstown High School class of 1961 will hold its class reunion Saturday, Oct. 2, at Martin L. "Marty" Snook Memorial Park in Halfway.

The event will be held in pavilion No. 2. Attendees are asked to provide a covered-dish to share. Chicken and beverages will be provided.

Participants will gather at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon.

Basketball signup

The Hagerstown Junior Basketball League will hold registration tonight from 6 to 8 at E. Russell Hicks Middle School.

Students in grades four through eight (14 years old before December) are eligible. The league is for those who attend public and private schools or are home-schooled in the Washington County area.

All new and returning players must register to be eligible to play. Those who are interested in playing must provide birth certificate or proof of age at the time of registration.

Registration will also be held at E. Russell Hicks Tuesday, Sept. 28, Wednesday, Sept. 29 and Thursday, Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti High School.
