Reyes, Hajjar lead Hawks to road win

HCC 4, Cecil College 2

NORTH EAST, Md. -- Michael Reyes and Garrett Hajjar scored two goals each as Hagerstown beat Cecil College.

Zack Morgan had two assists and Andrew Fowkes also had an assist for the Hawks, who outshot Cecil, 19-11.

HCC's Brian Kukucka made six saves in goal.


More honors for Katie Ritter

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Seton Hall freshman Katie Ritter, a North Hagerstown graduate, was named one of 12 College Soccer 360's Primetime Performers of the Week for the week ending Sept. 19.The honor is Ritter's third award in two weeks, having previously been named the Big East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 13 and to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll on Sept. 20.

Ritter earned her most recent honor for her game-winning goal in Seton Hall's 1-0 win over No. 24 Rutgers -- the Pirates' second victory over a ranked opponent since 1999.


Seton Hall has won four straight and Ritter has a team-high five goals.

Malone 2, Shepherd 1

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Kathleen Bryant scored the lone goal for Shepherd University off a corner kick by Rachel Dewberry in a loss to Malone (3-3).

Elizabeth Wise had six saves for the Rams (2-3).


Hedgesville 4, Berkeley Springs 2

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -- Katie Marchun had a hat trick to lead Hedgesville.

Marissa Abe had a goal, Shelby Knepper and Grecen Layton each had an assist and Tamiesha McBrearty had three saves for the Eagles (4-2-2).

Mercersburg 4, Goretti 0

Laura Rahauser scored two goals as Mercersburg Academy beat St. Maria Goretti.

Paige Wolny and Steffie Sasse each had a goal, Ana Kelly had an assist and Bailey Blake recorded the shutout in goal for the Blue Storm (3-1).


Chestnut Ridge 9, Southern Fulton 0

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. -- Josh Voight had 10 saves for Southern Fulton (0-4-1) in a loss to Chestnut Ridge.


Mercersburg 3, Saint James 2

SAINT JAMES -- Kiersten Sydnor had two goals and an assist to lead Mercersburg Academy past Saint James.

Sarah Wilson had a goal and Sophie Ostmier had an assist for the Blue Storm.

Church basketball meeting

The Washington County Church Basketball League will hold its first organizational meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at Tri State Fellowship, located at 13153 Cearfoss Pike in Hagerstown.

The meeting is open to any interested churches wanting to organize a teamfor the 2010-2011 season.

Church softball tournament

The 2010 Fall Church Softball Tournament will be held Oct. 23 at Fairgrounds Park in Hagerstown.

It will be a round-robin tournament, limited to the first seven teams to enter. Entry fee is $200 and includes balls, umpire fees and awards.
