Leopards win battle of defending champs

SMITHSBURG -- Sara Rishell had 32 kills, 11 digs and five blocks to help Smithsburg to a 25-16, 27-29, 25-18, 25-12 win over Francis Scott Key on Tuesday night in a matchup of last year's Maryland Class 1A and 2A champions.

Taylor Belella had 44 assists, Katie Sprecher had nine kills and four blocks and Danielle Beaver had 13 digs for the Leopards (5-0), the defending 1A champions.

Williamsport 3, Urbana 0

WILLIAMSPORT -- Trish Leigh had 19 kills as Williamsport remained unbeaten with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-13 sweep of Urbana.

Summer Neff had 19 assists and Stacey Christy had seven kills and seven blocks for the Wildcats (4-0).

JV: Williamsport, 2-1

Heritage 3, New Life 0

Heritage Academy stayed undefeated with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-14 sweep of New Life on Tuesday.

Kara Stamper had 19 kills and 17 service points and Callie Butts recorded 22 assists and six aces for Heritage (7-0).


Middletown 3, N. Hagerstown 2

MIDDLETOWN, Md. -- North Hagerstown suffered its first defeat of the season, a 25-20, 12-25, 19-25, 28-26, 15-13 loss at Middletown.

Peyton Wallach had 16 kills, Akilah McCall had 10 kills and Brynne Kirsch had 44 assists for the Hubs (3-1).

North Carroll 3, S. Hagerstown 0

Victoria Pearl had 18 assists for South Hagerstown in a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 loss to North Carroll.

Brianna Burnett had six service points, five blocks and four kills, Bobbi Burnett had eight kills and Courtney Showe had 11 digs and seven service points for the Rebels (1-4).

JV: South, 2-0.

Boonsboro 3, Tuscarora 2

FREDERICK, Md. -- Shelby Griffith had nine assists and four aces to lead Boonsboro to its first win of the season with a 22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23 victory over Tuscarora.

Sydney Parks had five kills and four blocks, Ashley Smothers had eight kills and seven blocks, Tiffany Rohrer had 45 digs and Katie Lum had eight kills for the Warriors (1-3).

JV: Tuscarora, 2-0.

Grace 3, Calvary 1

Caitlin Cox had five aces, 14 service points and 24 assists to lead Grace Academy to a 19-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Calvary Christian.

Victoria Broadwater had five aces, 15 service points, eight kills and nine digs, Tori Aikens had seven digs and two blocks, Kelsey Koontz had seven service points, five kills and two blocks, Allie Cox had eight service points and 10 digs and Brooke Morgan had six kills and two blocks for the Knights (6-3, 4-3).

Berkeley Springs 3, Petersburg 0

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. --Erin Close had 24 service points and 12 aces for Berkeley Springs in a 25-20, 25-19, 25-15 sweep of Petersburg.

Toni Davison had five kills for the Indians.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Ashlyn Blank had 11 kills and 18 digs for Shalom Christian in a 25-16, 26-24, 25-19, 25-20 win over Cumberland Valley Christian School.

Holly Andriene had 11 kills, 16 digs and seven service points, Kelsey Ebersole had eight assists and three kills, Kristen Blank had six assists, Rebekah Mowen had 16 service points and six aces, Stacey Thrush had 16 service points, 10 aces and three kills, Karlee Wise had six service points and Morgan Brockman had two kills and two blocks for the Flames.

Saint James 3, Goretti 1

SAINT JAMES -- Kyle Gross had 16 service points and six aces to lead Saint James in a 25-16, 17-25, 25-17, 25-20 win over St. Maria Goretti.

Jordan Wills had 16 digs and 11 kills, Taylor Deveaux had 12 kills, Myers Rhoad had 14 service points, three aces and nine assists and Carrie Spicher had 12 assists for the Saints.

Faith 3, Broadfording 2

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Bryn Feltner had 22 service points, three aces and 20 assists as Faith Christian beat Broadfording Christian 25-10, 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-13.

Jackie Solenberger had 14 service points, three aces and five kills, Katie Way had 17 service points, two aces, five kills and four blocks, Nicole Deneseus had eight service points, four aces, seven kills and three blocks and Miriam Griffeon had nine service points for the Falcons.

Williamsport 0, Frederick 0

FREDERICK, Md. -- Neither Williamsport nor Frederick was able to score in a double-overtime stalemate.

Frederick outshot Williamsport, 15-14. Alex Aleshire had nine saves for the Wildcats (2-3-1).

N. Hagerstown 2, Winters Mill 0

NIklas Grahn and Peter Perini each scored a goal to lift North Hagerstown past Winters Mill.

Caleb Mittel had four saves for the Hubs (5-1-1).

JV: North Hagerstown, 2-1.

Broadfording 4, Faith 0

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. --Andy Torres had a hat trick and an assist for Broadfording Christian in a shutout of Faith Christian.

Ryan Dominguez also scored and Andrew Wyand had an assist for the Lions.

North Carroll 4, S. Hagerstown 0

Chip Rittenhouse had 11 saves for South Hagerstown in a loss to North Carroll.

The Rebels (1-3) were outshot 21-4.

Heritage 1, New Life 0

Aaron Clark scored the lone goal of the match to give Heritage Academy (5-2) a win over New Life.
