TOPS Chapter 0462

Smithsburg TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0462 had a good weigh-in this past week. The chapter had a net loss of 7.75 pounds. Mack was the best loser with 4.5 pounds and Dale got back on track with a 2-pound loss.

After roll call and a small business meeting, Sally led the program on foods that make you healthy. She talked about how green tea, nuts, tomatoes, blueberries, and spinach are all good for you.

This week, the chapter is planning a walk in the park, weather permitting. It will be Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. in Smithsburg's Veterans Park. Members will head to the park after weigh-in. The walk is open to visitors who would like to learn more about TOPS.

Cascade Elementary

From the principal's desk:

"As we work to apply author Stephen R. Covey's 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People' this year, I believe that we can provide optimal support by coming together with our different talents and ideas.

"So in Covey's words, let us 'synergize' for 'together is better.'

"Habit 6: Synergize: I value other peoples' strengths and learn from them. I get along with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people's ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others, we can create better solutions than any of us alone."
