Jefferson Co. man charged with endangering children

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- A Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., man was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury this week on charges of endangering the lives of two young children who were riding in the back seat of his car while he was driving under the influence.

Demetrius McPherson, 32, of 399 Ridge Road, was charged with two counts of negligently creating a risk or serious injury to a minor and one count of third-offense DUI, according to charging documents. Third-offense DUI is a felony carrying a prison sentence of one to three years.

The children, one age 5 and the other younger than 2, were improperly restrained in the back seat, according to Jefferson County Circuit Court records.

o Four other people were indicted on third-offense DUI charges.

Christian Jerome Samuelson, 37, of 1422 Darke Lane in Kearneysville, W.Va., was charged with two counts of third-offense DUI and one count of driving while his license was revoked due to DUI, according to court records.

Michael Henderson Thomas, 33, of 541 Orchard St. in Vienna, Va., was charged with third-offense DUI, driving while license revoked for DUI and receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, according to court records.

Paul Richard Penwell, 51, of 218 N. West St. in Charles Town, was charged with two counts third-offense DUI and one count of driving while license revoked for DUI. Penwell was pulled over while driving a lawn mower, according to court records.

Anthony Vanzetti Thomas, no age available, of 215 Orianda Way in Bunker Hill, W.Va., was charged with third-offense DUI, driving while license revoked for DUI and a misdemeanor charge of no insurance, according to court records.

o Three people were indicted on burglary charges.

James Lee McDonald Jr., 35, no address available, also was indicted on a charge of grand larceny, according to court records.

Kenneth Dove, 19, of 1242 Haines Drive in Winchester, Va., also was indicted on charges of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle and conspiracy, according to court records.

Kristopher Michael Taylor, 19, of 27 Sternway Drive in Charles Town, was indicted on one count each of burglary and conspiracy, according to court records.

o James Mongold, 48, of 821 N. Mildred St. in Ranson, W.Va., was indicted on a charge of first-degree sexual abuse involving an 11-year-old girl, according to court records.

o Franklin Scott Hough Jr., 24, of 1347 Hidden Hollow Drive in Kearneysville, was indicted on charges of receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle and bringing a stolen vehicle into the state, according to court records.
