On Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, Violet Mae (Thomas) Schroyer, 89, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend and believer, went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, the people that meant the most to her in life. She was more affectionately known as "Meemaw" by all those who loved her.

Violet was born Jan. 5, 1921, in White Rock, Md. For the last 24 years, she lived in Greencastle, Pa. She was the daughter of the late James and Minnie (Savage) Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Schroyer; one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Schroyer; one son, Melvin Dean Schroyer; one sister, Florence (Thomas) King; and four brothers, Ted, Ralph, Norman and Marlin Thomas.

Violet is survived by six loving sons, Jack L. Schroyer (and wife Naomi) of LaVale, Md., Clifford R. Schroyer of Friendsville, Md., Dale E. Schroyer of Greencastle, Duane K. Schroyer (and wife Julie) of Greencastle, Larry E. Schroyer (and wife Judy) of Overland Park, Kan., and Vernon L. Schroyer (and wife Barbara) of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sisters, Edna (Thomas) Sines of Friendsville and Mildred (Thomas) Friend of Friendsville; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.


During her lifetime, she was employed as a mail carrier and a waitress and was a successful independent businesswoman, but she primarily was known as a truly wonderful wife, mother and homemaker who was loved by all.

The family would like to give special recognition and thanks to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice Inc. for its wonderful support and assistance during their mother's final days on this earth.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Newman Funeral Homes P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville. Services will be Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Ehko officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Accident, Md.
