ROUZERVILLE, Pa. -- One person was killed and seven people were injured Sunday in a two-vehicle accident near 13935 Midvale Road in Washington Township, Pa.

A teenage passenger in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 8:15 p.m. accident, Washington Township Police said in a news release.

The deceased was identified as Anthony Barlup II, 16, of Waynesboro, Pa. Barlup was a passenger in the left rear seat of the Pontiac, according to police.

The driver of the Pontiac was flown by helicopter to Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center, the release said. One passenger was flown to York (Pa.) Hospital and another was taken to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

The car was southbound on Midvale Road about half a mile from the Maryland line. It crossed the center line and hit a white 2003 Ford F250 pickup truck "virtually head-on," Washington Township Police Officer Jim Prohaska said.

Four occupants of the pickup truck, including two small children from the truck, were taken to Waynesboro Hospital, police said. One was later transferred to Hershey Medical Center, according to the release.

"You can tell just by looking at it that speed was a factor" in the crash, Prohaska said.

Prohaska said he believes everyone in the pickup truck was wearing a seat belt, but he was unsure whether the car's occupants were wearing seat belts. He said the children's injuries were not serious and they were at the hospital with their father.

The car is registered in Maryland and the truck is registered in California, Prohaska said.

The other victims' names have not been released.

Prohaska said police, the Franklin County (Pa.) Coroner's Office and emergency responders would be at the scene for hours for the investigation and cleanup.

"We measured the scene of impact, the skid marks -- what there was -- and took photographs," Prohaska said.

Midvale Road was closed from Amsterdam Road to Harbaugh Church Road.

Fire departments from Blue Ridge Summit, Waynesboro and Mont Alto in Pennsylvania responded to the accident, as did advanced life-support units from Waynesboro and Smithsburg. Ambulances from Blue Ridge Summit and Waynesboro also responded to the call.
