Two hurt in Boonsboro-area crash

September 20, 2010

BOONSBORO -- Two people were in stable condition Sunday in Washington County Hospital following a morning vehicle accident near Sheetz in Boonsboro, hospital representatives said.

Linda Cox, 64, of Northfield, Ohio, and Glen Stottlemyer, 73, of Boonsboro, were taken to the hospital Sunday with nonlife-threatening injuries, Maryland State Police Trooper 1st Class Corey Steffy said.

Steffy said the accident happened after Cox failed to obey a flashing red traffic signal on Md. 66.

A power outage earlier Sunday made the light at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Md. 66 flash instead of change, Steffy said.

Cox was traveling south on Md. 66 at approximately 10:43 a.m. when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the signal and proceeded into the path of Stottlemyer's vehicle, which was traveling west on U.S. 40, he said.
