Saint Mary School plans Family Fun Night

Saint Mary Catholic School will hold its Home School Association's Family Fun Night on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Friendly's restaurant.

The restaurant will donate 10 percent of sales to benefit the Home School Association.

The restaurant is at 12814A Shank Farm Way.

The best losers for the week at TOPS 0077 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077 were Emma Jean Robertson and Patsy Price. The best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) were Bonnie Henry and Joan Budny.

Price won the Get-R-Done prize, while Cindy Ryder won the three-week accumulated Ha! Ha! contest. The No-No snack for the week is cake.

The annual picnic was held Sept. 13.

An open house with the membership challenge will be Oct. 11. The open house is titled "Fall in Love with Losing."


The deadline for the holiday card drive for the troops will be Nov. 11.

Oct. 4 is a no-gain Monday and will begin the food-for-the-hungry collection.

Awards day was held at the last meeting. August weigh-ins totaled 76 members and 30 had perfect attendance. Honored KOPS were Dianne Keely, Jean Betker and Dorothy Smith. Honored TOPS were Terri Hendricks, Linda Lemon, Mary Lou Edmands and Price.

Shining stars were Hendricks and Louise Cline. Vergie Smith has lost 40 pounds. Lu Marlette is one-quarter of the way to her goal.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

The chapter welcomed visitors Tina and Beverly.

The week's thinner winner was Ernie, with a loss of 6.8 pounds. Runner-up was Frankie, who lost 5.2 pounds. The chapter's net loss for the week was 12.6 pounds.

Mary made announcements, then presented ideas and quotes she learned while attending TOPS international Recognition Days in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The next meeting will feature guest speaker Dave Creek, a pharmacist who owns and operates Home Center Pharmacy in Hancock. He will talk about weight loss and medications. A question-and-answer session will follow his presentation.

Meetings are held Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh-in and chair exercises are at 8:45 a.m.

Longmeadow Lions Club

Jack Myers, who is known as "Grandpa Jack" the story teller, will be the guest speaker at the Longmeadow Lions Club meeting Thursday.

He is also a singer, artist, author and decorated World War II veteran. He will share some of his life experiences.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at Always Ron's Restaurant.
