Shepherd boots Fairmont State

September 19, 2010

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- It wasn't pretty, but the end result will look like a perfectly executed kick through the middle of the goal posts.

Junior Eric Dobratz knuckled in a field goal from 32 yards with 2:11 remaining to give Shepherd University the lead and the Rams held on for a 19-16 victory over Fairmont State in the West Virginia Conference on Saturday.

Shepherd (3-0) drove from its own 34 on the Fairmont 14 and Dobratz converted the kick on fourth-and-1.

The Rams sealed the win when Keon Robinson intercepted Fairmont's Logan Moore at the Fairmont 47 and returned it 31 yards.

Shepherd held a 9-6 lead at halftime, scoring its only touchdown on a 4-yard run by Nate Hoyte.

The lead built to 16-6 in the third period when Tommy Addison capped a 54-yard drive with a plunge from the 1 with 4:15 left.

However, Fairmont (2-1) rallied to tie the score on a 25-yard field goal by Ben Landis and a 13-yard pass from Logan Moore to Patrick Pinchinat.

Addison led the Rams with 44 yards on the ground and quarterback Kevin Clancy threw for 138 yards for Shepherd.
