Workshop on canning food planned Sept. 28 at Ag Center

A worshop on canning food will be Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center's multipurpose building, 7303 Sharpsburg Pike.

The workshop costs $15 per person. Advanced registration is required.

The workshop, titled "Yes I Can! Learn how to Can!" reviews and updates the food preservation water bath method.

As local produce is abundant, many residents are looking for ways to preserve these seasonal fruits and vegetables. The Washington County Agricultural Marketing Office in partnership with the University of Maryland Extension-Washington County will be presenting the class focusing on the methods and best practices for preserving food.

The class will include a review of home canning equipment, processing methods, ingredient preparation and food safety practices.

Registration is due by Thursday, Sept. 23. Make check or money order payable to Washington County Treasurer.

The cost of the class includes the 2010 Ball Blue Book.
