Lewis W. Miller, 87, of Charles Town, W.Va., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Willow Tree Manor Nursing Home in Charles Town.

Born July 28, 1923, he was the son of the late Alvin L. and Bessie E. (Staubs) Miller.

Lewis was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He spent most of his life working as a farmer.

He is survived by his former wife, Eva (Chaney) Miller Hewitt of Hagerstown, Md.; two sisters, Shirley and her husband Harold Babington of Smithsburg, Md., and Betty and her husband Maurice Payne of Knoxville, Md.; one brother, Gerald Miller Sr. of Knoxville, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also will be remembered by his special caregiver, Melissa Ault.


Lewis was preceded in death by his two sisters, Dorothy Huffer Haws and Jean Haws Mentzer; and three brothers Earl, Lester and John Miller.

A funeral ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Alan M. Smith will officiate. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Old Brownsville Cemetery in Brownsville, Md.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.
