Breakfast planned

Sharpsburg Fire Co. 1 will hold breakfast in front of the fire hall on Chapline Street in Sharpsburg during Sharpsburg Heritage Day on Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m.

The breakfast costs $5. It will be eat in or take out.

The menu includes two pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage or two pancakes or toast with sausage gravy, orange juice or coffee.

Barbequed chicken will be sold downtown starting at 10:30 a.m. One-half chicken dinners with either baked beans or french fries, apple sauce and a roll costs $7. One-quarter chicken with roll costs $6. Drinks will be available for sale.

Samples Manor to hold fall revival

Samples Manor Church of God, at 2128 Harpers Ferry Road near Dargan, will hold a fall revival from Sunday through Sunday, Sept. 26, featuring preachers and musicians each evening. Brethren Church to provide food stand

Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren will hold a food stand in front of the church on Main Street during Heritage Day Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.

Country ham sandwiches, hot dogs, chili dogs, kraut dogs and soups by the quart or bowl will be for sale. The baked goods table will include cookies, pies, candy, potato candy and fudge. Soft drinks and water will be available.

Fire company to hold bingo

Potomac Valley Fire Co. in Dargan will hold a basket bingo Saturday. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with bingo starting at 1 p.m. There will be 25 regular games for $10 with three specials at $1 each.

The fire company will hold a steak dinner Saturday, Sept. 25.

The menu includes includes steak, baked potato, baked beans, green beans, cole slaw and a roll. Tickets cost $15. Tickets are available by calling Nancy at 301-432-2938 or the fire house at 301-432-2130. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

St. Paul's to hold yard sale

The women of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, at 209 W. Main St. in Sharpsburg, will hold a yard sale in conjunction with Sharpsburg Heritage Day on Saturday.

The sale, which will be indoors at the rear of the church, will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Parking is available on Main Street and off the alley behind the church.

The women will also offer chances on a quilt (made by 88-year-old Fannie Horst), with the winner to be drawn Oct. 10. All proceeds are used for local community outreach.

PTA sponsors Kaboom!

Kaboom! is a PTA-sponsored event at Sharpsburg Elementary School for families set for Friday, Sept. 24, as part of Community Night Out.

Families are asked to take a picnic supper with drinks, blankets or chairs. The event starts at 5:30 p.m.

Some of the activities during the evening will be kickball, softball (bring your mitt), four square, ping-pong, cupcake walk, Sharpsburg community walking scavenger hunt (will need a digital camera to play), insect catching, bird watching, friendship building and candy bar buying (to support the PTA).

St. Mark's to sponsor dinner-auction Oct. 2

St. Mark's Episcopal Church will sponsor a dinner-auction catered by Black Eyed Susan on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. at St. James Brethren Fellowship Hall, 17718 Lappans Road.

Items for the auction include goods, services, coupons from local businesses and other items. Tickets cost $30 and can be ordered by calling 301-582-0417. All proceeds benefit the Youth Workcamp Mission Trip Fund.
