Head of Children in Need named Woman of the Year

The Business and Professional Women's Club of Hagerstown has named Anne R. Martin its Woman of the Year for 2010.

Martin, of Hagerstown, was chosen for the honor in recognition of her "outstanding career in leadership and community service," according to the inscription on the plaque given to her Monday night.

The inscription said she also received the award for her "achievements in promoting women in the workplace, advocacy for children through Children In Need Inc., advocacy for women through CASA, career as a woman businessowner, and dedication to the community."

Martin has been executive director of Children In Need, at 131 W. North Ave. in Hagerstown, since January 2007. In that post, she manages the day-to-day operations of the nonprofit organization and develops programs to benefit the welfare of children, according to her resume.

Since March 2008, she has served as Washington County Domestic Violence coordinator for CASA.

She was owner of Anne Martin Interiors in Hagerstown from 1985 to 2007.

She is a senior majoring in sociology at Frostburg State University's Hagerstown campus.

She and her husband, Edwin Martin, live in Hagerstown.
