AAUW planning specialty book sale Oct. 8



The Hagerstown Branch of the American Association of University Women will present a special sale featuring old, rare and collectible books Friday, Oct. 8, at the Hagerstown Women's Club, 31 S. Prospect St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Current and choice items will also be available, as well as lots of children's books and holiday books in gift-giving condition. Proceeds go toward scholarships for local students.

Lioness Club to meet Oct. 7



The regular meeting of the Hagerstown Lioness Club will be Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Academy Theater in downtown Hagerstown. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Gloria Dahlhamer, who will speak about her career in journalism with The Herald-Mail.

The community service committee will be collecting nonperishable food for local food banks.
