VISTA, Calif. (AP) -- An actor who appeared in the film "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" has been convicted of attempted premeditated murder by a San Diego County jury in the knife attack of his ex-girlfriend.

Jurors on Thursday also found Shelley Malil guilty of assault with a deadly weapon. He was acquitted of residential burglary.

The panel began deliberations Wednesday in Vista Superior Court after a three-week trial.

Malil played Haziz, a co-worker of Steve Carell's character in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."
