September 16, 2010

CLEAR SPRING -- U.S. 40 near Spickler Road was closed Thursday night after a fire on a utility pole cut electric service to Clear Spring-area residents, according to a Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Department spokesman.

A passer-by noticed the fire, which burned a support structure at the top of the pole, Lt. Zack Reid said.

Reid said he did not know what started the fire.

An Allegheny Power website reported at 9:30 p.m. Thursday that 607 Washington County residents were without power.

The website estimated that power would be restored at about 11:45 p.m.

No outages in Washington County were listed on the website at 5:45 a.m. Friday.

U.S. 40 near Spickler Road was closed about 10 p.m. while Allegheny Power workers repaired the damaged pole, Reid said.
