Bus trips planned

St. Mark's will host a bus trip to New York City on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Participants will be on their own once in New York. The trip costs $55 per person.

Reservations are due by Sept. 19.

The bus will depart from St. Mark's at 6 a.m. and leave New York City at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Nov. 20, St. Mark's will host a bus trip to Lancaster, Pa.

The trip will include a visit to the Copper Kettle, shopping at the outlets and a trip to Sight & Sound for the "Miracle of Christmas."

The trip costs $115 for adults, $90 for teens and $72 for children.

The fee includes bus fare, lunch and ticket to the show.

Reservations and money are due by Sept. 26. Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

SHHS yearbook update

South Hagerstown High School has the summer supplement for the 2009-10 "Experience Change" yearbook on hand.

The supplement can be picked up at the school.

Spaghetti dinner

A spaghetti dinner benefiting Habitat for Humanity will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Saturday, Sept. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the church hall. Tickets cost $7.50 for adults, $5 for those younger than 10 and free for those younger than 3. Carry-out dinners will be available for $7.50.

The church is at 17630 Virginia Ave. in Halfway.

The event will help raise funds to help the Apostles Build program in Hagerstown. Tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, call the parish office at 301-797-9445.

Dance and fly-in

The Hagerstown Aviation Museum will host the fourth annual 1940s Big Band Dance on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Hagerstown Regional Airport Terminal along Showalter Road.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a patriotic fly-over of 1940s airplanes, and dancing from 8 to 11 p.m. The dance will feature a variety of 1940s music performed by the Martinsburg (W.Va.) Big Band, provided through the financial contribution of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Dressing in 1940s clothing is encouraged, but optional. Food and refreshments are included in the ticket price, and a cash bar is available. Tickets cost $25 each.

The Big Band Dance will be held the same weekend as the annual Hagerstown fly-in, scheduled for Sept. 25 and 26. The Hagerstown Aviation Museum will have displays at the event, featuring aircraft and items from the museum's collection.
