Around Funkstown

Good morning, friends

Do you have your windows open and your coffee in hand? It will not be a long visit today as I do not have a tremendous amount of information to share. Maybe a one-doughnut visit.

Funkstown is quiet and all is going as it should. Our offspring are toiling away at college and in the local schools. Amazing how time just keeps marching.

I heard something somewhat profound the other day and it took away every excuse I have been using. Have you ever said, "Sorry, there are just not enough hours in the day to get that done." Well, guess what, Einstein, Bill Gates, Galileo, and yes even Newton, had the exact same number of hours in their days. Kind of kills any excuse we might come up with.

OK, enough of that, on to what we can do to fill the endless or not so endless hours that we have.

Church service

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Funkstown is inviting all former and present members to a homecoming service Sunday, Oct. 3, at 9 a.m.

A luncheon will be served after the service.

If you did not receive your invitation but would like to attend, call Charlotte Miller at 301-733-2678 no later than Sept. 20.

Open house

Mark your calendars now for the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Department's open house Saturday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be activities for children, adults and families. What a perfect time to see what goes into keeping our community safe and the dedication of those who serve.
