SMITHSBURG, Md. - Daniel A. Brunner, 83, of Smithsburg, Md., passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at his home.

Born Dec. 24, 1926, near Chewsville, Md., he was the son of the late Wilbur L. Brunner Sr. and Letha I. (Wolfe) Brunner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise (Fogle) Brunner, June 19, 1974.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Army.

He retired from Western Maryland Railroad after 40 years of service.

He was a member of the Western Maryland Old Timers Club; South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Smithsburg; and American Legion Post 239, Cascade.

He is survived by one daughter, Brenda Brunner-Jackson and husband Jeffrey of Goose Creek, S.C.; three sisters, Cleo R. Weaver and husband Doug, and Dianna J. Grimes, all of Hagerstown, and Shirley A. Shank and husband Lester of Homosassa, Fla.; brothers, Gerald E. Brunner and wife Vickie, and Wilbur L. Brunner Jr., all of Hagerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice D. Brunner and Mary Catherine Grimm; and one brother, Nevin L. Brunner.

A memorial service will be Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at 1 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor Julie Brigham officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md., at the convenience of the family.
