Marijuana plants seized

September 15, 2010

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Berkeley County Sheriff's Department deputies on Tuesday seized 34 marijuana plants growing behind a residence at 807 Hyslip Road, Sheriff's Deputy Lt. Gary Harmison said.

A search warrant that was executed Tuesday was prompted by information received from a confidential informant and a subsequent flyover of the property by a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol air division helicopter, Harmison said in a news release.

Harmison, along with Sgt. Ted Snyder, Cpl. Chris McCulley and Deputy Michael St. Clair of the Criminal Investigation Division, along with Deputy R. Grove, executed the search warrant. The plants were estimated to be worth about $3,000, according to Harmison.

The plants, along with bags of dried leaves, were found throughout the property. A search of a home at the Hyslip Road address led to the discovery of additional marijuana, along with paraphernalia and a stolen firearm, according to the release.
