Fire damages two-story home in Smithsburg

September 14, 2010

SMITHSBURG -- A fire Monday night caused heavy damage to a two-story home at 13137 Greensburg Road north of Smithsburg, according to a fire official.

It was believed the fire started in the kitchen, Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co. Chief Chris Rohrer said.

The fire caused heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house, making it uninhabitable, Rohrer said.

The fire was reported at 8:10 p.m. and firefighters arrived at the scene in about four minutes, Rohrer said.

Two owners of the house who were inside at the time of the fire were able to find another place to stay, Rohrer said.

About 45 firefighters responded to the fire, Rohrer said.
