Driver injured after Jaguar flips on I-81

September 14, 2010

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. -- A 19-year-old man was thrown from a 1997 Jaguar and the driver became trapped after the car crashed on Interstate 81 Monday afternoon, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

Preliminary investigations and statements from witnesses suggest that the driver was southbound, then crossed into the median and began flipping in the northbound lane, according to a news release.

The crash, which was reported about 1:16 p.m., occurred about three miles south of the Maryland line, officials said.

The driver was flown out of the area because of his injuries but the release did not indicate where he was taken.

The release did not say whether the passenger was hospitalized.

Police said they were not releasing the names of the individuals involved because the driver's injuries prevented officers from interviewing him.
