Mr. Richard L. "Dick" Gladhill, 74

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Mr. Richard L. "Dick" Gladhill, 74, of 15434 Summit Farm Drive, Blue Ridge Summit, died early Sunday morning in his home.

He was born Aug. 20, 1936, in Hagerstown, Md., the son of the late Clarence W. and Bessie (Mills) Gladhill. He lived his early life in Clear Spring and Pectonville, Md.

Dick graduated from Clear Spring High School with the class of 1954.

He served in the United States Army during peacetime.

Mr. Gladhill was employed as a financial manager for various car dealerships, including Hoffman Chevrolet, Hagerstown, Sharrett Inc. of Hagerstown, and prior to retiring in 1994, he worked at Lynn's Chevrolet in Waynesboro.


Dick was a member of Cascade American Legion Post 239 in Cascade, Md.

He enjoyed golfing and was an avid football fan.

He is survived by his companion, Alice J. Humphrey; two daughters, Renee D. Kesner and husband, Harvey, of South Orange, N.J., and Sheila D. Gladhill of Hagerstown; two sons, Steven C. Gladhill of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Stacy K. Gladhill of Smithsburg, Md.; children of the his companion, Karen M. Humphrey of Frederick, Md., Randall S. Humphrey of Blue Ridge Summit and Sandra K. Good of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; one brother, Rolland E. "Tom" Gladhill, his twin, of Hagerstown; two sisters, Beth Weaver and Dee Weaver, both of Hagerstown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will be in Parkhead Cemetery, Big Pool, Md., on Thursday.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
