"Why do Americans choose from just two people to run for president and 50 for Miss America?"

- Hagerstown

"Washington County, you're correct in saying a president doesn't need college. Abe Lincoln had none, either. President Obama doesn't listen to his advisers, he has gone over the Constitution and some cases Congress, Senate, to reach his agenda. Allowing a $787 billion stimulus to go through with what I saw was absurd, i.e. study of swine odor in Iowa, etc. When we were out of work, he insisted his health care go through, that we did not want. He apologizes for us to our enemies, weakened our defense, let terrorists free to kill again and snubs our allies. Hamas got $900 million tax dollars. Why?"

"Bedbug advice for travelers: Spraying toxic bug-killing spray around a sleeping room is not only dangerous for yourself, but often ineffective, as bedbugs hide in cracks not reached by the spray, and are increasingly resistant to many bug killers. Best bet is to make them avoid you - use a DEET-containing repellent ... and spray under the sheet, all around the edge of the mattress and particularly all around the headboard. Also, spray a ring around your suitcase(s) on the floor, and don't hang items in the closet. That will keep the bugs from getting into and hitching a ride back home in your clothes or luggage."

"Does the public know that teachers not only have had their salaries frozen, have taken no step increases this year, but they have also seen a 23 percent increase in health care premiums? With this increase in premiums, the teachers have also seen an increase in co-pays for doctor visits and prescription purchases and an increase in deductibles. With all this considered, the majority of teachers have seen a decrease in their salaries. And the BOE wants more."

"For years now, I've been thinking that the 22nd amendment to the Constitution, which limits the president to two terms, was a mistake. I've changed my mind. After seeing the vicious way partisans of both parties have attacked the previous president, maybe it's good we didn't give them more time to build up a claque."

- Chambersburg, Pa.

"Your president (then senator) voted against funds for additional protection equipment for our military in 2007. Thanks to Sen. McCain suggesting the surge to Gen. Petraeus, it worked. We won the war and not only helped Iraq citizens. If we don't fight these terrorists on their turf, we will fight them on ours. We are now, as Obama has currently changed all Bush's strategies, making it easier for terrorists to enter, and even inviting some Palestinians here to live."

"Welcome back, kids, and a big welcome back to Mr. Dave. Maugansville Elementary is so blessed to have you as the 'guy that helps us all.' Only a volunteer? Are you kidding me?"

- Hagerstown

"Our two-party political system has currently become a sad joke. The Republican hierarchy are such Obama haters that they allow the country to suffer because of their refusal to work on the problems. They know that any unrest will be directed at the guy at the top, and this is their goal. Their refusal to pitch in and go to work is shameful and disgusting. These people do not deserve to be given the reins of power."

- Boonsboro

"I attended the Martinsburg, W.Va., air show Saturday. On Sunday, Sept. 5, there was an amazing picture on the front page of the Air Force Thunderbirds taken by your staff photographer, Kevin Gilbert. I just wanted to say that it was probably the best realistic picture that I have ever seen in this newspaper. The timing to get such an incredible shot of their formation had to be perfect. Hats off to Mr. Gilbert's talent."

- Lappans Crossroads

"Unemployment is at a record high, the economy is in turmoil, illegals are flowing across our borders, our military is engaged in two wars and our esteemed congressional representatives are worried about a ballplayer taking steroids. Should that not be the business of Major League Baseball? Why should Congress be involved? Roger Clemens is facing fines and jail time for lying to Congress. How come Bill Clinton, who also lied, got a free ride?"

- Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

"Hagerstown caller: Republicans did not try to downsize Social Security. Since President Obama won't listen to either party's requests to stop spending money we borrowed, changing the retirement age to 70 was a suggestion since Social Security is about gone. ... Nor has he explained the USAID (part of the U.N. that Americans have allowed to steal and criticize us for years) giving Sri Lanka $28 million to train its workers in English, computers, networking, manufacturing and extra $12 million to teach them construction since they (are out) of work."
