The St. Mary Catholic School Prayer Group recently received a letter of thank you from Pope Benedict XVI.

In April, the group made a card and sent it to the pope for his fifth anniversary and birthday week. In his response, Pope Benedict said he would "pray for the students and their teachers," and he sent them his blessings.

The prayer group, which has 55 members, has been meeting at St. Mary once a week for 10 years. Children read the Bible, participate in Marian processions, learn about the lives of the saints and pray the rosary. Each week, a different family takes a Lady of Fatima statue and some rosaries home to encourage the family to pray the rosary together. The group is led by Madeline Bender with the help of mothers from the school family.
