HAGERSTOWN -- Seven catalytic converters were stolen from seven vehicles parked at Spanky's Used Car Sales & Auto Repair at 2000 Jefferson Boulevard, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said Sunday.
The converters were stolen from the cars between Thursday and Saturday, police said.
The pollution-reducing converters contain platinum and palladium, and have become highly valuable as metal prices climb, officials have said.
Thieves sometimes use battery-operated saws to cut the converters from beneath cars, and they can get up to $300 for the devices, police have said.
Anyone with information about the thefts at Spanky's can call Deputy C.L. McCarthy at 240-313-2878, ext. 6131.
