North Hagerstown's football team wanted to wipe the slate clean after last week's season-opening 56-7 loss on the road against Thomas Johnson.

The Hubs accomplished that goal with an impressive 41-19 victory over Frederick in North's home opener at Mike Callas Stadium.

"The kids rebounded well from last week," Hubs coach Danny Cunningham said. "We played the way we are capable of playing."

North (1-1) had three senior running backs rush for more than 100 yards against Frederick (0-2). Anthony Winter led the way with 210 yards on 23 carries. Rico Johnson had 123 rushing yards on 14 carries and Trey Anderson added 117 rushing yards on nine carries.

"The game was won in the trenches by the offensive line," Cunningham said. "Our line just dominated tonight. They opened up some nice lanes for our backs. Anytime you put three backs in for over 100 yards rushing, you know that your line is doing what they have to do to get the job done up front."

Winter scored three of the Hubs' six touchdowns. Anderson added two touchdowns and Johnson had one.

"We had good blocking and that led to good running," Winter said. "The line was definitely opening up the holes. There was a lot of blocking downfield. For me personally, it was just a matter of following the fullback (A.J. Staley) down the field to get some more yards.

"It was definitely team-oriented. Our entire offense was strong in the first half. We came out fighting. Everyone just pushed hard and gave it their all."

The Hubs finished with 481 yards rushing and 27 first downs.

North got on the scoreboard 1:51 into the game when Johnson dashed along the left sideline for a 47-yard scoring run.

Winter charged through the left side for a 3-yard score with 8 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Winter went to the right side for an 18-yard touchdown run and Steve Coccodrilli ran for the two-point conversion with 31 seconds to play in the second quarter to give the Hubs a 20-0 halftime lead.

Winter broke through the left side for a 22-yard score and Alex Courtney kicked the extra point with 8:27 left in the third to increase the Hubs' advantage to 27-0.

Frederick finally got on the scoreboard by scoring the last two touchdowns in the third quarter. Deonte Taylor ran for a 17-yard score and Jerel English kicked the extra point. Mark Hoy returned a fumble recovery 55 yards for a score.

North got a pair of touchdowns by Anderson and a pair of extra-point kicks by Courtney in the fourth quarter. Anderson broke through the middle for a 6-yard score on the first play of the quarter, and added a 59-yard touchdown run along the left sideline with 3:40 remaining to give the Hubs their biggest lead at 41-13.

Taylor's 1-yard touchdown run late was the Cadets' final score.
