Martinsburg VA Medical Center

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jonathan Fierer, M.D., recently was appointed chief of staff at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Fierer was appointed interim chief of staff for the medical center in January 2009.

Fierer was in private practice in West Palm Beach, Fla., from 1988 until his return to the VA in 2001. He joined the staff of the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center as a primary care physician and instructor in the Public Health Fellowship Program.

Fierer joined the primary care staff at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center in 2004. He was appointed associate chief of staff for performance improvement and education in 2006, and was appointed acting chief of imaging in 2008.

Fierer completed his undergraduate studies at Emory University near Atlanta and his medical degree at the University of Miami. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Washington (D.C.) VA Medical Center-Georgetown University program. He served as chief medical resident at the Washington VAMC upon completion of his residency.


Fierer is board certified in internal medicine. He has held clinical instructor faculty appointments at Georgetown, University of Miami, Nova Southeast School of Osteopathic Medicine and West Virginia University.

ekm Inspirations

Norine Dagliano, owner of ekm Inspirations, recently presented at the NCAB/AALAS annual conference in Washington, D.C.

Dagliano's presentation, titled "Turbo Charge your Career: Tools and Techniques for Kicking Your Career into High Gear," was delivered on two consecutive days to about 100 laboratory animal science professionals from NIH and other research centers who were attending the conference.

Dagliano is a nationally certified rsum writer and a job search trainer.

o Elaine Ashby was promoted from associate professor to professor of biology and chemistry.

o Richard Campbell was promoted from instructor to assistant professor of developmental mathematics.

o Thomas Crawford was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of mathematics and business.

o Joseph Mason was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of mathematics.

o Melinda May was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of English and humanities.

o Carrie Hawbecker, assistant professor of developmental mathematics; David Karstaedt, assistant professor of anatomy and physiology/microbiology; Joseph Marschner, assistant professor of music/drama; Veronica Stein, assistant professor of chemistry and physical science; and Patricia Williams, assistant professor of practical nursing, each were granted tenure.
