Donald Gerald Carson, 80, of 13302 Briarwood Circle, Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at his home.

Born Friday, Oct.18, 1929, in Tarentum, Pa., he was the son of the late Dale Andrew Carson and the late Arlene Mae Gahagan Carson.

He was a 1948 graduate of Southern High School in Baltimore, Md. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard, where he served four years. He was the owner of High-Way Furniture, retiring in 1994, and was formerly employed with Shaivitz & Sons and also La-Z- Boy Chair Co. Don was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. He volunteered at the Ravenwood Adult Day Care for 20 years. He was a 25-year member of the Mason Dixon Barbershop Chorus and also a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Hilda Carson; one daughter, Judith J. Wilson and husband Jim of Hagerstown, Md.; a son, Donald Wayne Carson and wife Sybil of Crestview, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christina A. Decker of Trinity, Fla., Brandy R. Fosco of Tampa, Fla., James M. Wilson of Fort Myers, Fla., and Ryan A. Wilson, also of Fort Myers, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren, Carson, Dylan and Tyson Decker.


He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Ray Carson.

Services will be Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md., with the Rev. Linda M. Alessandri officiating.

Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, Md., from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Md.
