Albert (Bill) Spickler, 84, of Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at his home. Born Feb. 8, 1926, in Cearfoss, Md., he was the son of the late Bertha (Bowers) Spickler and Noble V. Spickler. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patsy Ann Spickler.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the battleships USS Iowa and USS New Jersey. Upon his discharge, he worked for Blue Ridge Bus Lines and Greyhound. He retired from Hall's Trucking Co.

He was a member of Teamsters 992, Morris Frock Post 42, Williamsport United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men.

He is survived by four sons, Michael Spickler and wife Jodi of Hagerstown, Gregory Spickler and wife Sally of Sharpsburg, Md., Timothy Spickler and wife Lisa of Myersville, Md., and David Spickler and wife Mary of Fairmont, W.Va.; five grandchildren, James Spickler of Hagerstown, Amanda Helfrick and husband Dan, and Brenna Spickler, all of Myersville, Md., and Cody and Jeremy Spickler of Fairmont W.Va.; and two sisters, Bettie Sampsell of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Pauline Renner of Boonsboro, Md.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Abell; brothers, Harold Spickler and Earl Spickler; and daughter-in-law, Deborah Dutton Spickler.

At his request, his body was donated to the State Anatomy Board of Maryland. A memorial service will be at Williamsport United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsport United Methodist Church Building Fund, 25 E. Church St., Williamsport, MD 21795.
