Deborah Ann Kissinger, 58, of Waynesboro, Pa., died at her home Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010.

Born March 6, 1952, in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of Bill and Harriet Kissinger. She is survived by her children, Isaac and Alexanna Hillson, and husband and companion of 34 years, Ted Hillson; mother, Harriet Kissinger; sister, Lois and her husband, Adrian Marini; brother, David Kissinger and his wife Clarissa, and their children, Mariah and Mckenna.

She earned a bachelor's degree in special education from Slippery Rock University and a master's degree in reading from the University of Pittsburgh, teaching first in Somerset, Pa., in special ed, and then in Washington County, Md., as a reading specialist. In the early '80s, she was responsible for creating the curriculum for Reading Education for the State of Maryland. Deb also taught for the Waynesboro Area School District as a reading specialist for two years. She retired from teaching in 2002.


Deb had been a competitive swimmer in high school and often enjoyed swimming at the local Y. She was a lifelong artist, photographer, reader and writer. An avid fan of snow, she was an accomplished skier and snowboarder.
