Lions to mark anniversary

The Lions Club of Halfway was chartered Sept. 5, 1957. The anniversary of the charter will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel near Valley Mall.

Mary Towe, chief nursing officer at Washington County Hospital, will be the speaker for the evening. Tickets cost $20 per person. Reservations are due by Sept. 27.

Hickory Elementary School news

Hickory Elementary will host a dads and doughnuts event Friday, Sept. 17, at 8 a.m.

On Wednesday, Sept. 22, a PTA fundraiser event is planned at CiCi's Pizza from 5 to 8 p.m.

Hat Day is planned at Hickory on Friday, Sept. 24, as part of Spirit Day.

Lakeside community plans yard sale Oct. 2

Lakeside mobile home community will host a yard sale Saturday, Oct. 2, starting at 8 a.m. Lakeside is off Halfway Boulevard, near Valley Mall.


Homecoming parade planned for Oct. 2

Williamsport High School will kick off its homecoming celebration with its annual parade.

Interested marching units can reserve a spot by contacting Williamsport High Band Director Robert Stike at 301-766-8434.

The parade will be Saturday, Oct. 2, starting at 11 a.m. at Springfield Middle School.

Blue Band to hold Tag Day on Saturday

The Williamsport Blue Band will hold its annual Tag Day on Saturday.

Starting at 9 a.m. band members, dressed in their band T-shirts, will be going door to door in their attendance area collecting donations. Due to the size of their attendance area, they might not make it to every home.

If they don't stop by your house and you want to contribute, mail your donation, made payable to Williamsport High School, to Williamsport Blue Band Boosters, P.O. Box 212, Williamsport, MD 21795.

The Blue Band members are excited about the upcoming competition season. This year's show is titled "Bach in the New Millennium."

The band's first competition will be in Martinsburg, W.Va., Saturday, Sept. 18.
