Authorities investigating death of Chambersburg man

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Authorities in Franklin County were investigating the death of a Chambersburg man Thursday.

Timothy Bradford Smith, 37, was found at his home at 31 Field Circle, Pennsylvania State Police and the Franklin County Coroner's Office said in a news release.

An autopsy was scheduled for today at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

No other information was released.

Woman refuses treatment after crash into Pa. orchard

MONT ALTO, Pa. -- A Mont Alto woman who told police she could not get her car to stop refused treatment Tuesday morning after driving through yards and into an orchard, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Melinda K. Pabon, 54, was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla on Mentzer Gap Road near Creager Road at about 9:30 a.m. when she crested a hill and the vehicle's engine revved, police said. Pabon told police she tried to brake, but the car would not slow down, police said.


Pabon veered off the road to avoid a vehicle in front of her and went through some yards, a culvert and into the apple orchard, police said. The car went about 100 yards through the orchard before coming to a stop, and three trees were damaged, police said.

Pabon, who was wearing a seat belt, refused treatment for her injuries, police said.

Fire damages deck of Waynesboro home

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- An apparent electrical malfunction was the cause of a fire Thursday morning that damaged the back deck of a Waynesboro home, a Waynesboro Fire Department firefighter said.

The fire was called in at 2:01 a.m. at 123 Clayton Ave., a Franklin County 911 dispatcher said. The fire caused about $2,500 in damage to the deck, but did not otherwise damage the house, the firefighter said.

There were no injuries and the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Co. assisted at the scene, the firefighter said. The scene was cleared at about 3:30 a.m., he said.
