Boonsboro council, mayor honor two residents for community service

BOONSBORO --Boonsboro Town Council members and Mayor Charles F. "Skip" Kauffman Jr. honored two people Tuesday night for their service the community.

Julie Greene, who has been on the town's planning commission for 21 years, has announced her resignation from the board.

Council members and Kauffman invited Greene to the front of the room during a regular council meeting at the Eugene C. Smith Community Center in Shafer Park to honor her for her work in the town.

"It was a great period in my life," said Greene, a former postmaster. "It went very fast. I learned a lot. I hope I gave."

Dennis Hockensmith was honored for his work as a Little League Baseball umpire. Hockensmith started working as an umpire in 1968 and was honored for his "unparalleled commitment to the sport."


He recently umpired the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Trick-or-treat scheduled for Halloween night

BOONSBORO -- Trick-or-treat will be held in Boonsboro on Sunday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., Boonsboro Town Council members said Tuesday night.
