Employees of Kaplan University recently donated the proceeds from their jeans day program to the Humane Society of Washington County.
On Aug. 27, Kaplan University's Lisa Copenhaver, dean of student affairs, and Bonnie Mazzocchi, student success coordinator, presented the donation of $196 to Paul Miller, the animal shelter's executive director.
"Each month, employees are permitted to wear jeans to work on a specific weekday if they donate $5 toward that month's chosen charity," said Shannon Cianelli, director of career services.
"For the month of July, they chose to help the Humane Society of Washington County."
Copenhaver said this type of fundraiser serves a dual purpose.
"It is a fun, but educational project because information on the chosen organization is posted for employees and students to read," Copenhaver said.
"This is done to promote awareness of the organization we are helping that month and to promote the idea of giving back to the community."
